Veterans Park Project
The Papillion Community Foundation is thrilled to be part of the Veteran’s Park project. Check back here as we release more information on the park and how you can be part of the project. In the meantime, please look through these beautiful photos and drone video taken at the park. We look forward to continuing to improve this wonderful park along with the City of Papillion.
Park elements are organized to take full advantage of the strong axial view from the corner of Monroe and Halleck Streets. The entrance gateway is flanked by two columns and short walls on either side of the sidewalk. The walls are made of natural stone and include signage identifying Veterans Park. The wooden pergola provides shelter and seating opportunities within the park's plaza. Projects that we hope to add will be a donor recognition wall as well as a shallow reflection pool that mirrors the flags, national, state and city in a smooth pool of water. During events, a slightly raised platform within the reflection pool will provide an ideal location for a podium or focal point.. There are also plans to add a walkway that has stops along the path with history of Sarpy county veterans during wartime. A dense evergreen screen will separate recreational park uses to the east and creates enclosure to the lawn area adjacent to the flags. Benches throughout the park provide seating and thoughtful reflection opportunities.
